Samsung’s Galaxy S flagship phones are available on most every carrier you could want, but some folks prefer buying their smartphones unlocked and direct from the manufacturer. Now those people can get a Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, too.
Samsung is launching unlocked versions of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge in the U.S. The Galaxy S7 is priced at $669.99, while the Galaxy S7 edge is $769.99. You can buy the phones direct from Samsung or from Amazon, Best Buy, eBay, Sam’s Club, and Target.
These Galaxy S7 and S6 edge phones work with all four major U.S. carriers. They’ve got support for LTE bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 29, and 30. And because they’re unlocked, the phones don’t have any carrier apps preinstalled, meaning that you’re getting a pure GS7 experience.
The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge aren’t the first unlocked smartphones that Samsung has ever sold — it’s offering an unlocked Galaxy S6 on its site — but the company typically only sells its phones through its carrier partners. Some folks prefer to buy unlocked because it gives them the freedom to switch carriers, lets them avoid preinstalled apps, and usually gets them faster software updates, too. And while it would’ve been nice to see these unlocked GS7 and GS7 edge models launch alongside the carrier versions earlier this year, the fact that they’re available at all is still welcome news.
