It used to be that iOS was considered to be by far the most dominant mobile platform when it comes to app selection and quality. Android has caught up in recent years, but reports have suggested that iOS is still leading when it comes to the app and media sales figures. Now a new rumor claims that Google has a plan to try and change that.
According to The Information, Google is thinking about letting users try out portions of apps for free. This would give folks a chance to try out a certain part of a paid app without paying for the whole thing or using up their data plan on downloading the whole thing and then not liking it.
It’s not known when Google might roll out this feature or how exactly it might work, but it sounds like an interesting plan. Users can be hesitant to pay for an app that they’ve never used, especially if they’ve got to draw from their bucket of megabytes to do so. Google’s app trial could get people to try out a specific part of an app that they’re interested in before buying, potentially getting them to try out apps that they otherwise may have never paid attention to.
How often do you buy apps?
