Dell’s been in the Android tablet game for a while now, recently launching devices like the Venue 7 and Venue 8. Now it’s back in action at CES 2015 with a new Android tablet that’s stupid thin.
The Dell Venue 8 7000 series is an Android 4.4-powered tablet that measures just 6mm thick. Yeah, that’s pretty thin. Dell has crammed quite a few notable specs inside of that thin body, though, including a 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and an 8.4-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2560x1600.
Oh yeah, the cameras. The Venue 8 7000 Series has an Intel RealSense Snapshot Depth Camera setup on its backside, along with a regular 8-megapixel camera. The Intel RealSense Snapshot Depth Camera captures a depth map for every photo you take, letting you do things like refocus your photos after they’ve been taken, change the brightness of background and foreground objects, and do linear or area measurements of a photo. Dell’s also thrown a 2-megapixel camera on the front of the Venue 8 7000 Series.
The Venue 8 7000 is one of the most attractive mobile devices that Dell has ever made, and it’s pretty highly-specced to boot. Dell has had some strikes in the mobile space in the past, but it’s good to see the company sticking with mobile, but also churning out some nice-looking hardware. If you agree, you can buy a Venue 8 7000 Series tablet right now from Best Buy for $399.99 along with free shipping.
