The original G Flex from the Life’s Good crew had quite a bit going for it back when it launched, but the real takeaway from the handset was that it offered a gratuitous curve to the display. LG and Samsung both offered a curved display on a smartphone around the same time, but LG’s offering certainly gained more traction. As a result, we’ve already heard about the follow-up to the handset, with LG officially unveiling the G Flex 2 during this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

I managed to use the G Flex for a bit of time, and it really only left one thought in my head after my time with it: it’s too big. The original device had a curved display that measured in at six inches, which made it one of the biggest devices on the market at the time. As someone who’s inherently not a fan of smartphones with gigantic display, I was admittedly a bit prejudiced against the handset right from the get-go. But, I gave it a shot anyway. The curve wasn’t as annoying as I thought it would be, and the self-healing back cover was pretty cool — even if I never had to use it.

I know there are people out there that disliked the original because it had a 720p display, but that’s just a small caveat in my book.

But, here we are in 2015 and now LG has a successor to the G Flex, and the Life’s Good crew has done quite a bit to improve just about everything across the board. They even actually shrank the screen size, which is something that I was not expecting at all. And, truth be told, while 5.5-inches is still too big more often than not, I’m actually genuinely curious to see how I like the device with that curved display and the smaller reach.

The G Flex 2 is one of the only devices that has been announced at CES that has genuinely grabbed my attention, so I’m looking forward to trying it out. What do you think of the G Flex 2?
