Just a week after Sony took to the CES stage to introduce us to the Xperia Z1S and Xperia Z1 Compact, the device maker has added a couple more Xperia phones to its lineup.
First up is the Xperia T2 Ultra, a 6-inch 720p phablet that takes advantage of its large size by packing a 3000mAh battery. Powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, the Xperia T2 Ultra is intended to target emerging markets like China, the Middle East, Africa and the Asia Pacific rim, and so Sony will offer both single-SIM and dual-SIM variants of the device to attract international customers.
Along with its size, the Xperia T2 Ultra's camera is one of its tentpole features. The unit boasts a 13-megapixel rear camera, complete with Sony's Exmor RS for Mobile sensor and several social camera apps, including Background Defocus, Timeshift Burst and Sweep Panorama. Rounding out the T2 Ultra's spec sheet is a 1.1-megapixel front shooter, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage that can be expanded with a microSD card, LTE support and Android 4.3.
Sony's other new smartphone is on the opposite end of the size spectrum. The Xperia E1 features a 4-inch 800x480 touchscreen on its face, 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor at its heart and a 3-megapixel rear camera on its backside. Sony is also throwing in 512MB RAM, 4GB storage, a microSD slot, HSPA+ connectivity and a speaker that can pump out tunes at 100Db, a volume so loud that Sony says a motorcycle won't be able to drown it out. Like its big T2 Ultra sibling, the Android 4.3-powered E1 is intended to target emerging markets and will be available in single-SIM and dual-SIM flavors.
Sony is remaining tight-lipped when it comes to the pricing and availability details for its two new Xperia smartphones, but it does say that the Xperia T2 Ultra will be sold "at a mid-range price point." It'll be interesting to see exactly what Sony defines as a "mid-range price point," as the T2 Ultra's combination of a huge display, high-end camera and beefy battery could make it a hit so long as the price is right.
