After months of previews and a big statue reveal, Android 7.0 Nougat is now rolling out to the public.
Google is now pushing the Android 7.0 update over the air. The update will arrive first on the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player, and Nexus 9 as well as Android One’s General Mobile 4G. The Pixel C will get Nougat, too, so if you’ve got any of these devices, be sure to keep an eye out for Nougat over the coming days.
Android 7.0 brings with it a number of new features. For example, Multi-Window Mode will let you run two apps simultaneously on both phones and tablets. There are also improvements to the Doze feature introduced in Android 6.0 Marshmallow, with Doze now putting your phone into a low power state when its in your pocket or purse to help save more battery life.
Other new features of Android 7.0 include Virtual Reality Mode for Daydream-ready phones, customizable Quick Settings tiles, Vulkan API for improved 3D graphics, the ability to reply to messages directly from the notification, notifications that are bundled when from the same app, and 72 new emoji.
Android 7.0 is a big update for the platform, adding a nice mix of new features, performance enhancements, battery savings, and more. There’s not a huge design overhaul, but it’s not like the current Material Design-ified version of Android looks bad, so that’s not a big deal.
