A Samsung executive recently confirmed that China would be getting a beefed up Galaxy Note 7 with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Now it’s been revealed that Japan is getting a unique Galaxy Note 7, too.
Samsung’s Japanese website shows that that country’s Galaxy Note 7 will lack any Samsung branding. While the Note 7 sold in most other regions has Samsung’s name on both the front and the back of the phone, Japan’s Note 7 won’t say Samsung anywhere on the device. Even the box is missing Samsung’s name.
This isn’t the first time that Samsung has erased its branding from some versions of its Galaxy flagships. The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge lack a Samsung logo on their faces, but there is "Galaxy" branding on their backsides. In China, the Note 7 doesn't have any branding on its front, but it does say "Samsung" on its rear.
Samsung hasn’t come out and explained why their name is being totally removed from the Japanese version of the Galaxy Note 7. One thing that we do know is that the Note 7 does look cleaner with no branding on its front or back. Considering that Samsung is the number one Android manufacturer and the company has been using this glass design since early 2015, so you have to wonder if Samsung could get away with going logo-less on its flagships in more regions but still have its phones be instantly recognizable as Samsungs.
It’s unlikely that we’ll see this totally de-badged Note 7 available outside of Japan, so if you want a closer look, you’ll have to visit Samsung Japan’s website.
