We’re still two and a half months out from Google I/O 2016, but today Google put up a website to help us prepare for the conference.
The Google I/O 2016 site includes a countdown to the event’s May 18 start date, complete with colorful wireframe numbers. The site also reveals that registration will run from 9:00 am PT (12:00 pm ET) on March 8 through 5:00 pm PT (8:00 pm ET) on March 10. Once registration closes, Google will randomly select applicants and give them the chance to buy a ticket to I/O.
As for pricing, a general admission ticket to the three-day I/O 2016 conference will cost $900. Google will also offer a limited number of $300 academic tickets for full-time students, professors, and faculty at high school or higher institutions.
It’s good to see Google will once again be randomly selecting applicants and giving them the opportunity to purchase a ticket to I/O. In the years before the 2014 show, Google would simply open up tickets for everyone at once, and they quickly sold out. That meant that folks that were unable to be on a computer at a certain time were out of luck. With this registration process, everyone gets a fair shot at buying a ticket to Google’s big conference.
