Typically if you want to add insurance to your new phone or tablet, you’ve got to do it when you buy the device or shortly thereafter. If you’re an AT&T customer, though, you can now get insurance no matter when you bought your device.
AT&T is offering open enrollment for its device insurance from March 1 through April 30. That means that, so long as you’ve got one of the eligible devices, you can add insurance right now, even if you bought it months ago. Insurance pricing starts at $7.99 per month for loss, theft, damage, and out-of-warranty malfunctions, and it goes up to a $29.99 per month plan that lets you add two other devices, gives you next-day replacements, and more.
Deductibles range from $25 to $299, depending on what kind of device you have. You can check out a full list of AT&T’s insurance-eligible devices and their deductibles right here.
Whether or not you need insurance on your phone or tablet is entirely up to you. Some folks feel like insurance is a waste of money because they never use it, while others are happy to pay to have peace of mind. And while most folks that like insurance probably do sign up right when they get a phone, some folks may pass on it initially because of the cost, but then change their mind later on. AT&T’s open enrollment is for those people.
