It sounds like the past week or two have been pretty rough for some Android users. Reports have been popping up about issues related to both the new Nexus 7 and the Google Play Store, with users of both products experiencing issues that could make using them rather difficult.

First up, many owners of the new Nexus 7 claim to be having problems with their device's touchscreen. As demonstrated in the video below, the tablet's touch detection can occasionally take on a mind of its own, registering presses even when there are no fingers on the screen. Many Nexus 7 owners have discovered the issue thanks to unwanted key presses that occur while typing on the slate's software keyboard. A Google employee has acknowledged the problem, and while it's not yet certain exactly what the cause of the problem is, he says that the Android team is looking into the situation.

Moving on to a bug that has the potential affect even more Android users, it seems that the Play Store has been returning a "Package file is invalid" error when some users try to update or install apps. The problem appears to disappear and return randomly, but the issue has persisted enough to lead Google to create a "Known issue" page for it on the Google Play support site. Google says that it's working on a fix but that there are currently no known workarounds, so any Android folk that encounter the problem will just have to try their download again at another time.

Both issues sound pretty irritating, with one making it difficult for owners of the new Nexus 7 to interact with while the other can prevent any Android user from installing a new or updated app. The good news is that at least Google has responded to both problems and promises that it's investigating fixes for them both, and considering that the bugs are affecting Google's shiny new tablet and its app storefront, I'm sure that the company would like to squash them ASAP.
