Love Android, Word, PowerPoint and Excel? If so, today's your lucky day, because Microsoft has officially released its Office Mobile for Office 365 app into the Google Play Store.
The Office Mobile for Office 365 app is available for Android phones running version 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or higher and sports a feature set similar to the iOS app that debuted in June. That means that Android users will be able to create, view and edit Word, PowerPoint and Excel documents using an app that's been optimized for their handset. The app can access documents stored in a SkyDrive or SharePoint account as well as docs from emails and items that were recently viewed on a computer.
In addition to sharing a feature set with its iOS counterpart, the Office Mobile for Office 365 Android app also requires that users be signed up for an Office 365 subscription. Microsoft offers an Office 365 Home Premium subscription for $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year.
Microsoft's Office mobile apps for Android and iOS have been the subject of multiple rumors in the past, so it's good to see that they're finally both available to both platforms. Office Mobile for Office 365 may not be the first Android app to support document viewing and editing on the go, but the fact that it comes straight from Microsoft could make it attractive to Office 365 subscribers that frequently see ".doc," ".ppt" and ".xlsx" pop up throughout their day.
