It looks like AT&T is trying to end July with a bang, as the big blue carrier today announced that it has expanded its 4G LTE network and has begun rolling out an Android 4.1.2 update to the Pantech Discover. First up, AT&T has activated its LTE service in several new cities across the country and has also expanded its existing LTE footprint in other locales. The list of markets announced so far looks like this:

New markets

• Arkadelphia, Ark. (includes portions of Caddo Valley, Friendship, Gum Springs, Malvern, Poyen, Saginaw, Social Hill and surrounding communities)
• Russellville, Ark. (includes parts of Atkins, Damascus, Dardanelle, London, Morrilton, Plumerville, Pottsville and surrounding communities)
• Cedartown, Ga.
• Rome, Ga.
• Martha's Vineyard, Mass.
• Ardmore and Ada, Okla.
• Durant, Okla.
• Enid, Okla.
• Ponca City, Okla.
• Charleston, W.Va.

Existing markets

• Greater New Orleans metro, La. (now includes portions of St. Tammany Parish as well as the seven parishes across the greater metro area)
• Hamburg, N.Y. (now includes Erie County Fairgrounds, Hamburg, Glen Meadows Park, Scranton, along Interstate 90 near exit 57 [Hamburg], Camp Road/Lake Street [Route 75], and Boston State Road [Route 391]). 
• Watkins Glen, N.Y. (now includes portions of Montour Falls, Watkins Glen State Park, Marina Park, Shequaga Falls Park, Glen Creek, Lakeside Park and the Catherine Creek Wildlife Management Center)

AT&T has also announced that starting today, July 31, Pantech Discover owners can download an update that will bump their device up to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. The update brings with it the usual assortment of Android 4.1 goodies, including Google Now and its information cards, Voice Search and improved notifications that are expandable and can be acted upon from right within the notification panel.

The Pantech Discover came preloaded with Android 4.0 when it launched in Jan. 2013, and so this new Android 4.1.2 update is a pretty big deal for anyone that calls the Discover their daily driver. The software should be rolling out over the air today, so if you've got a Discover nearby, grab that sucker and head on into Settings > AT&T software update > Check for updates to see if you've got a Jelly Bean waiting for you.
