Last week, we heard a rumor that Deutsche Telekom, owner of T-Mobile here in the U.S., was considering selling T-Mo to Sprint. Neither company has commented on the matter, but a letter from T-Mobile CEO Philip Humm addressing the situation has leaked out. Unsurprisingly, Humm doesn't outright confirm or deny the rumors, simply saying that "DT will always explore options for maximizing the value of its portfolio and profits" and that he and DT CEO Rene Obermann recently "discussed several potential options to improve [their] competitive position, such as the sale of towers, strategic partnerships, and other financial options."
Humm's letter doesn't really offer much more insight into the whole rumor, but it does sound like talks with Sprint have taken place. Whether or not they're still talking, and if the meetings will lead anywhere, is tough to say, but a Sprint/T-Mobile merger would certainly shake things up a bit.
