It's been a couple of weeks since we last saw Google's Android OS distribution, meaning it's time for an update! Android 2.1 continues its steady growth, sitting at 59.7 percent of the devices that accessed the market during a two week period ending on August 2nd, up 4.2 percent from the last report. Android 2.2 also experienced some growth, up to 4.5 percent from 3.3 percent two weeks ago. On the opposite side of things, both Android 1.5 and 1.6 are down, with 15.3 and 20.3 percent of the market, respectively.
I'm glad to see Android 1.5 and 1.6 continue to shrink as the platform's fragmentation problem continues to slowly disappear. Now that Froyo has begun rolling out to the HTC EVO 4G and will hit the Moto DROID any day now, I'm sure Android 2.2 will grow exponentially the next time we see one of these charts. Hopefully Froyo will hit more devices in the near future so we can get most everyone caught up before Gingerbread hits.
