During its Galaxy Note 20 event earlier this month, Samsung committed to providing three years of Android OS updates for its flagship smartphones. Now the company has shared some more info on that commitment.
Samsung has reaffirmed that it will offer "three generations of Android operating system (OS) upgrades on millions of Galaxy devices". These include recent and future Galaxy S and Galaxy Note flagships as well as foldables, tablets, and Galaxy A series models.
The Galaxy S20 series will be the first of Samsung's devices to receive an update to Android 11 later this year. Other models will be updated "shortly thereafter."

One of the main selling points of Google's Pixel phones is that they're guaranteed to get three years of Android OS upgrades. Not many other Android device makers made that commitment before, including Samsung, who typically only gave two years of Android OS updates.
That's why it's good to see Samsung come out and guarantee three years of Android OS updates for many of its phones and tablets. These aren't cheap devices and many people are keeping their phones for three, four, or even five years. Getting new Android OS upgrades can prolong the life of a device, giving the owner more features to use and less of a reason to move to a new phone.
