Microsoft is reportedly "pretty much done" with the Surface Duo's hardware and software and is aiming to launch it earlier than it previously announced. That's according to Windows Central's sources, who add that Microsoft hopes to have completed work on the Surface Duo's software by April and that it could begin shipping in limited quantities this summer.
When Microsoft announced the Surface Duo back in October 2019, it said that the dual screen Android phone would launch sometime during the 2020 holiday season.
However, it sounds like Microsoft is ahead of schedule with work on its device. The company is said to be working on the top-level OS customizations and in-box app experiences of the Surface Duo, which it makes sense that Microsoft would need to do since the phone is unlike most other Android devices out there.
