A new streaming video service has arrived, but it's a bit different than most of the other services out there.
AT&T TV is launching nationwide today after a pilot test in 13 markets. Rather than being a service you watch on your existing streaming stick or box, AT&T TV gives you an Android TV set-top box with access to more than 5,000 apps in the Google Play Store, including Netflix, Spotify, and Pandora, plus there's a Chromecast built-in.
The box also comes with a remote with a Google Assistant button that you can use to access shows, use apps, and control smart home devices.
If you're not at home, you can watch AT&T TV on your phone or tablet, too. AT&T TV allows for up to 3 concurrent streams.
There are four different channel packages to choose from with AT&T TV: Entertainment, Choice, Xtra, and Ultimate. The base Entertainment package includes channels like TNT, USA, CNN, ESPN, Food Network, and Fox News. Moving on down the line of packages gets you more channels, like Choice adding the YES Network and Cooking Channel while XTRA throws in Olympic Channel, too.
AT&T TV also offers several add-on channels that you can add to your package individually, such as Telemundo, Starz, and HBO.
You can view AT&T TV's full channel lineup here.
Cloud DVR is included with your AT&T TV subscription, giving you 500 hours of storage so you can watch shows later.
Pricing for AT&T TV starts at $49.99 per month for the Entertainment package and goes up to $54.99 for the Choice package, $64.99 for the Xtra package, and $69.99 for the Ultimate package. AT&T TV does require you to sign up for a two-year contract and includes an early termination fee of $15 per month for each month left on your contract.
After your first 12 months of service, pricing for the packages will go up. Entertainment will go up to $93 per month, Choice will cost $110, Xtra will be $124, and the Ultimate package will cost $135 per month.
New AT&T TV customers will get HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz, and Epix included at no extra charge for their first three months. After that time, those channels will auto-renew at $54 per month unless you cancel.
