Apple's iPhone 11 is one of the last hotly anticipated flagship releases of 2019, and today a few more details about the next iOS smartphone have leaked out.
Apple will launch three iPhone 11 models in the fall, including follow-ups to the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR. The iPhone XS replacement is known as D42 (iPhone12,3), according to 9to5Mac, while the iPhone XS Max follow-up is D43 (iPhone12,5) and the iPhone XR successor is N104 (iPhone12,1).
All three iPhone 11 models are expected to include the same displays as their predecessors. That means that the iPhone XS and XS Max follow-ups will have a 3x OLED Retina display while the iPhone XR successor will have a 2x Liquid Retina screen. All three iPhones will also include a Lightning port and not a USB-C port like Apple's recent iPad Pro tablets.
One area where these iPhones will be upgrade are their cameras. All three iPhone 11 models will gain an extra camera, giving the XS and XS Max follow-ups three cams while the XR successor will get two. This additional camera will be an wide angle snapper that, in addition to capturing wide angle shots, will reportedly be used for a feature called Smart Frame that will capture the area around the framed area of photos and videos an then let you make adjustments after taking your photo.
Apple is also expected to upgrade the front-facing camera on the iPhone 11 models to enable slow motion video recording at 120fps.
These new iPhone models are also expected to include new Apple's new A13 processor, which has the codename Cebu and is model T8030.
Finally, the new iPhone 11 models will reportedly ditch 3D Touch. Apple is expected to include a new kind of Taptic Engine in the new iPhones that's codenamed "leap haptics". Details about what features it will bring aren't yet known, but it could improve the Haptic Touch feature that gives you 3D Touch functionality but with a long press and haptic feedback rather than pressing harder into the screen to get added options.
We've seen lots of Android phones launch with wide angle cameras, helping you fit larger subjects into your photos, and so it's exciting to hear that iPhone owners will soon gain some wide angle camera functionality, too.
Apple hasn't said anything official about its new iPhone event for this year, but considering previous iPhone reveals, we'll likely see the iPhone 11 in early September.
