For several years now, Honor has been offering its "Honor X" series as good-looking mid-range smartphones at aggressive prices. Today that series continues with the Honor 9X and 9X Pro.
Both the Honor 9X and Honor Honor 9X Pro feature 6.59-inch 2340x1080 displays, and the good news is that there's no notch or hole-punch to be found. The bezels around the screen are fairly slim, too, though there is a small chin at the bottom of the front.
In order to avoid using a notch or hole-punch, Honor opted for a pop-up selfie camera mechanism on its new phones. This cam is a 16MP snapper with an f/2.2 aperture.
The rear cameras are where the Honor 9X and Honor 9X Pro differ a bit. Both phones have a main 48MP camer and 2MP depth sensor to help you capture those portrait mode photos that are popular right now, but the Honor 9X Pro adds an 8MP wide angle camera so that you can fit everyone into your group photos.
Both phones are powered by a Kirin 810 processor, and there's a 4000mAh battery inside both models as well. Other shared specs include a USB-C port for charging, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a fingerprint reader on the side of the devices. To help them stand out, Honor has also given the 9X and 9X Pro an X-shaped design on the glass backs of its new phones.
The Honor 9X will be available at a starting price of RMB 1399 ($203 USD) for the model with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Honor will also sell 6GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB versions for RMB 1599 ($232 USD) and RMB 1899 ($276 USD), respectively. The Honor 9X Pro will come with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for RMB 2199 ($320 USD), or you can step up to the 8GB/256GB model for ($349 USD).
At those prices, the Honor 9X and 9X Pro could be solid mid-range options. They've both got large screens and a respectable amount of RAM, and there will probably be lots of folks happy to see that the 3.5mm headphone jack has made the cut while the notch has been excluded. There's no word yet on when either phone will be offered outside of China, but we should hear more about global launches soon.
