After recently announcing the Timeline UI update for older Pebble smartwatches, Pebble today announced a feature for its newer smartwatches, too.
Pebble Health is a new activity tracking feature that works with the Pebble Time, Time Steel, and Time Round smartwatches. Pebble Health can track your steps as well as your sleep, and Pebble says that rather than focusing on getting you to reach a step count each day, Pebble Health will compare your progress to your personal average. It’ll also provide you weekly step and sleep graphs, and it can integrate with your timeline as well. Finally, Pebble Health is compatible with both Google Fit and Apple HealthKit.
Pebble Health is part of the Firmware 3.8 update that brings the Timeline UI to the Pebble Classic and Pebble Steel. Those two models won’t get Pebble Health with their Firmware 3.8 updates, but they will get the new Timeline UI as well as unlimited apps.
Firmware 3.8 is rolling out today to all Pebble models. Pebble is also rolling out new versions of its Android and iPhone apps that support the new smartwatch features and also include bug fixes and stability improvements.
This new firmware is pretty big for Pebble. While Pebble smartwatches have had support for devices from Misfit and Jawbone, native support for activity tracking with Pebble Health is a big deal. It means that newer Pebble watches are now gaining step and sleep tracking with an update, and they can even integrate that info with their Android or iOS phone. Meanwhile, Pebble Classic and Steel owners are getting a fresh new UI on their watches, even though they’re the older models of the Pebble lineup.
