When the Apple Watch launched earlier this year, it was available in three colors that matched the iPhone 6 — Silver, Gold, and Space Black — as well as a fourth Rose Gold option. Now a report suggests that Apple will produce a new iPhone model to match the Apple Watch’s fourth hue.
According to 9to5Mac sources, Apple will offer Rose Gold versions of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. The color is expected to look copper-ish in color, like the Apple Watch, and the front of the iPhone will be white, just like the regular gold iPhone 6. Unlike the Rose Gold Apple Watch, though, the Rose Gold iPhone will be made of anodized aluminum and not 18 karat gold.
Apple has shown lately that it likes to offer many of its products in matching colors. For example, the new 12-inch MacBook is sold in Silver, Space Gray, and Gold colors just like the iPhone 6, and the company also sells Powerbeats 2 headphones in the same colors as its Apple Watch Sport bands. That’s why I could see Apple release Rose Gold versions of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. It’d give Rose Gold Apple Watch owners a new iPhone to match their Watch, and some folks might also like the Rose Gold iPhone 6s because it will be the main way to tell at a glance that they’ve got an iPhone 6s and not an iPhone 6.
Today’s report also says that Apple will use ionized glass for the fronts of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, not sapphire like some may have suggested.
Apple is holding an event on September 9, and it’s expected that both the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will debut there, as well as some new Apple TV hardware.
