Looks like the leaks were true. Today RadioShack announced that it's teaming up with Cricket to launch RadioShack No-Contract Wireless, a service that'll offer feature phones and smartphones sans commitment. The phones will be launching at RadioShack stores nationwide tomorrow, September 5, and will include the Huawei Mercury Ice and Huawei Pillar. The Mercury Ice features a 4-inch 854x480 display, 1.4GHz processor, 8-megapixel camera and Android 2.3, along with a $149.99 price tag. Meanwhile, the Pillar is a feature phone with a full QWERTY keyboard and $39.99 price. RadioShack says that two more unnamed phones are expected to arrive before the end of September. The company also notes that all of its smartphones will come loaded with an 8GB microSD card and will feature support for Cricket's Muve Music service.

So what kind of plans can customers interested in RadioShack No-Contract Wireless expect? Well, there are two different options for feature phones and two for smartphones. On the lower end of the spectrum, feature phone owners can choose between a $25 plan that includes 300 minutes as well as unlimited text and web, while the $35 option bumps the minute allotment up to 1,000 and also packs in unlimited messaging and data. The service's smartphone rate plans start at $50 per month, which includes unlimited talk, text and web (1GB of full-speed 3G data). There's also a $60 plan that packs in unlimited minutes, messaging and data (2.5GB of full-speed 3G data) as well as tethering.

With the arrival of RadioShack No-Contract Wireless tomorrow, it looks like customers searching for a new contract-free service will have another option to choose from. RadioShack's lower-end feature phone plan looks like it could be a good option for someone that's looking to get a new handset on the cheap and doesn't plan on using it much as an actual phone. The smartphone options on RadioShack No-Contract Wireless service seem pretty similar to Cricket's own offerings, which isn't a surprise considering that RadioShack's service is powered by Cricket, but it's nice to see that all smartphones will come packing an 8GB microSD card and will have Muve Music support.
