The Google news continues strong in the evening of day 1 of I/O 2018, as the company has updated its Android platform distribution numbers.

Google today reported its latest Android distribution numbers, which measures how much each version of Android was used to access the Play Store duiring the seven-day period ending May 7th. During that time, Android Oreo was on 5.7 percent of devices, with 0.8 percent of users on Android 8.1 and 4.9 percent on Android 8.0. That total is up from 4.6 percent last month.

Usage of Android Nougat (7.0 and 7.1) grew, too, going from 30.8 percent in April to 31.1 percent in May. Android Marshmallow (6.0) usage fell from 26 percent in April to 25.5 percent in May, while Android Lollipop (5.0 and 5.1) usage dropped from 22.9 percent in April to 22.4 percent in May.

As we continue to move to older versions of Android, the usage continues to decrease. Android KitKat (4.4) slipped to 10.3 percent in May and Android Jelly Bean (4.1-4.3) fell to 4.3 percent. Finally, usage of Android Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) and Android Gingerbread (2.3) held steady from last month to this month to finish at 0.4 percent and 0.3 percent, respectively.
