In addition to Google Assistant and Google Maps, it was revealed today that Google News is getting an overhaul.
The new Google News will utilize artificial intelligence and machine learning to understand the people, places, and things in a story and connect how they relate to one another. Google says that this will help Google News put info together in a way that helps you make sense of what's going on and what the reaction has been.
A "For You" section will include five stories that the app has organized for you based on the things you care about. This will be a mix of important headlines, local news, and the latest developments in topics you care about. The more you use Google News, the beter it'll get at picking out stories for you. And if there's a topic you want to learn more or less about, you can finetune the app.
Google is also tinkering with a feature called newscasts. This visual format will gather a collection of articles, videos, and quotes on a single topic to make it easier for you to dive in.
The "Full Coverage" feature will give you a complete picture of a story from a variety of sources, including videos, local news, FAQs, and social commentary. Meanwhile, the Headlines feature will give you news from around the world on topics like technology, business, sports, and entertainment.
If you'd prefer to check out a single source, you can go to the Newsstand tab to follow sources you trust and discover new ones. Google is also making it easy to subscribe to sources with your Google account. Newsstand will host more than 1,000 magazine titles in a mobile-optimized format as well.
The new Google News will replace Google Play Newsstand on mobile and desktop as well as the Google News & Weather app on mobile. Google News is rolling out starting today and will be available to everyone on Android, iOS, and the web in 127 countries by next week.
