It’s official: Nokia is returning to the mobile game next year.
New Nokia phones running Android will launch in the first half of 2017. To be specific, Nokia is licensing its brand to HMD Global Oy, who will parter with FIH Mobile Limited to manufacture the Nokia-branded devices.
Details of these Nokia-branded Android phones are unknown, so it’s unclear what kind of specs they’ll offer or how much they’ll cost.
Nokia was once a major player in the mobile game, but we haven’t seen any new Nokia-branded smartphones for awhile now. What will be interesting is seeing how consumers respond to a new Nokia-branded Android phone in 2017. The Android competition is fierce, and while the Nokia name may help draw attention to a new device, we’ll have to wait and see if these Nokia-branded phones will actually sell.
