Days after rolling out SMS support in its Android app, Facebook Messenger today is gaining another major new feature.
Facebook Messenger is getting a new home page that aims to make it easier for you to start up a conversation. With the refreshed home page, you’ll see a few of your recent conversations first, then a Favorites section with a scrolling list of contacts, then a Birthdays section that’ll let you quickly wish your buddies a Happy Birthday. Finally, you’ll be shown a few of your friends that are currently online, followed by your other recent messages.
This refreshed home page is now rolling out, so if you don’t already have it in your Messenger app, you should see it soon.
The current Messenger home page just shows a list of all of your conversations, so this new-look home page aims to be a bit more informative and helpful. The hope is that the new home page will make it quicker for you to send a message to your favorite contacts and that, if you see that one of your friends is celebrating a birthday, you’ll shoot them a message and strike up a conversation.
