Instagram has made some big changes lately. After getting itself a new logo and rolling out its algorithmic timeline globally, Instagram today added a major new feature to its iOS app.
Instagram users on iPhone can now post to the service from the iOS Share Sheet. The app was updated to version 8.2 today, and it now includes an extension that you can enable to share directly to Instagram from Photos and other apps.
To enable the feature, go into an app like Photos and click the iOS share button. You can then scroll to the end of your list and hit the More button with the three-dot icon. In there, you can enable the Instagram share button. When enabled, you can select a photo, hit the Share button, then tap the Instagram icon. You’ll then be able to add a caption and share your photo.
The Instagram extension for iOS will let you quickly post to Instagram from within apps like Photos, Google Photos, and others. The downside, though, is that posting to Instagram using this method won’t let you edit your photos using Instagrams editing tools, including filters. So with this feature, you’re trading editing tools for convenience. Some folks won’t want to make that trade-off, but it’s definitely nice to finally have the option of quickly posting to Instagram from within the iOS Share Sheet.
