Google today took the wraps of an all-new product called Spaces.
Spaces is an app that enables small groups to share things like articles, videos, and images. To make doing all of that easier, Spaces comes with Google Search, YouTube, and Chrome built in. You can search in a Space to find a certain item that was shared, and there appears to be a sort of split view feature that’ll let you view and reply to new messages while looking at something that was shared.
Google says that you can quickly create a space for any topic and invite anyone using messaging, email, or a social network.
Spaces is launching today on Android, iOS, and the web for all Gmail accounts. The apps don’t appear to be live as of this writing, but Google has activated a website for its new app.
Group sharing apps like Slack and GroupMe and have become popular in recent years, and Spaces looks to be Google’s entry into that market. It’s tough to say much about Spaces without actually using it first, but it looks like a nice enough app for sharing with small groups of friends, co-workers, or whatever else. We’ll just have to wait for it to launch to see if it actually gains traction with users.
