For years, Republic Wireless has offered Motorola phones that use its Wi-Fi-centric service as well as the Sprint network when you’re away from Wi-Fi. Today things are changing.
Republic Wireless today announced that this July, it’ll launch 7 new phones from multiple manufacturers. Those devices are the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Samsung Galaxy S7, Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016), and Moto X Pure Edition. Because Republic Wireless doesn’t deal in contracts, it’ll offer financing for all of these new models, which will range in cost from $179 to $799.
The other big tidbit of news is that these devices will have GSM service when away from Wi-Fi. Republic Wireless isn’t saying which GSM carrier that it’s partnered with, only that they have “the fastest nationwide 4G LTE network.”
Rounding out today’s announcements is the news that Republic is prepping new rate plans to go alongside its new phones and network. The plans will be revealed in full in the coming weeks, but one of them will offer unlimited talk and text with 1GB of high-speed LTE data for $20 per month.
This is all pretty big news for Republic Wireless. The Moto phones that it’s offered in the past are solid devices, but it’s always good to have more options, especially when those options include the latest Nexus and Galaxy flagships. Meanwhile, the GSM partnership gives Republic customers access service that may work better in their area than Sprint’s network. So with new phones, new GSM service, and some new plans coming, now may be a good time to check out Republic if you’re on the hunt for new service.
