Remember that rumor from back in March that claimed that Google is working on an Amazon Echo competitor? Well if a new report is to be believed, you’ll be able to buy it this year.
Sources speaking to Recode say that Google’s Amazon Echo rival is codenamed “Chirp” and that it’s slated to launch in 2016. The device is expected to look like last year’s OnHub router collaboration between Google and TP-LINK. Most of the Chirp’s other details are still up in the air, though.
Google has been offering voice recognition tech for a while now, letting you say “Ok Google” to summon a voice assistant that’ll answer your questions, play music, change your settings, and more. Google’s voice tech may be the best on the market right now, and so the notion of having an Echo-style device dedicated to being your voice assistant sounds pretty enticing.
