Earlier today, Huawei released a statement that confirmed rumors that the Huawei P9 smartphone will be built with a Leica camera as its main sensor on the back. This supported reports from February that the Chinese manufacturer has partnered with the high-end camera manufacturer from Germany. Since the report was made, no other details about it was revealed leading people to make their own assumptions. Today's announcement confirms all the speculations people have had over the last month.
Apart from having a Leica camera, there are plenty of other rumors surrounding the P9's chassis, spec details, and a possible dual-camera on the rear. Unfortunately, none of these things were discussed in today's announcement. Even Leica's own involvement on the smartphone was not given much detail. It is possible that the P9 could sport a 12MP sensor on one of the rear cameras with Optical Image Stabilization and laser autofocus. But then again, this is merely another speculation.
Hopefully, more details about the Huawei P9 should be unveiled to the public in the coming days. Since Huawei has a special event lined up for April 6th (Wednesday), the P9 could be discussed further and in more detail.
