It was in September of last year that Huawei first introduced its new Mate S flagship smartphone. What made the Mate S handset interesting was that it featured a pressure sensitive display screen, and because the Chinese phone maker was able to unveil the handset a few weeks ahead of Apple’s own flagship, the iPhone 6s devices, many consider it to be the first smartphone in the market to feature a pressure sensitive display screen.
This year, Huawei will surely look to continue the momentum generated with the release of its Mate S device. So what other cool stuff might the follow-up, the Mate S2, have in store? Well, according to Sun Changxu, a tech industry analyst, and a supply chain source, the third biggest vendor of smartphones in the world is planning to release its first ever curved smartphone before the end of this year.
Considering that Samsung has already turned a lot of heads with its existing Galaxy Edge lineup of smartphones that feature a display screen curving to the sides of the device, will Huawei go the same route? As explained by Sun Changxu, the Chinese mobile giant will likely go for a design that should not be confused with the Edge devices of its South Korean rival.
If Huawei stays consistent with its usual routine, we may have to wait until September later this year before the Mate S2 is officially announced. Last year’s Mate S after all was unveiled on a September. In the meantime, fans of Huawei can look forward to the company’s formal introduction of its P9 smartphone, which is expected to happen during an event scheduled in early April of this year.
