We don’t see many Sony Xperia devices sold by carriers in the US, but the Xperia Z3v and Xperia Z2 Tablet did appear on Verizon’s shelves back in 2014. Fast-forward to early 2016 and folks that might’ve picked up those Verizon-branded Sony devices are now getting a Lollipop treat.
Verizon’s support pages for the Xperia Z3v and Xperia Z2 Tablet show that both devices are now being updated to Android 5.1.1. Xperia Z3v owners can expect to get HD Voice for high-quality calls and the latest Android security patches, and Xperia Z2 Tablet owners are also getting the the latest security patches.
Android 5.1.1 isn’t the latest version of Google’s mobile OS — that would be Android 6.0, which debuted in October 2015 — but it’s certainly an upgrade from the software that the Xperia Z3v and Z2 Tablet were running previously. Sony has said that the international Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 Tablet will get Android 6.0, but it remains to be seen when or if the update will make its way to these Verizon devices.
