When Apple announced the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, it detailed all of the improvements found in the new devices, like 3D Touch and beefed up front and rear cameras. Apple didn’t name all of the new 6s goodies, though, because another update has been discovered that’s perhaps one of the biggest upgrades of the new phones.
Developer Hamza Sood has used Apple’s Xcode tool to determine that the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus both include 2GB of RAM. That’s double the RAM found in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Sood also found that the iPad Pro includes 4GB of RAM, double the amount found in the iPad Air 2.
Not much of a surprise but Xcode confirms 2GB of RAM for the 6s (and 6s plus), and 4GB for the iPad Pro pic.twitter.com/X8Ym4DtamS

The image asset is chosen based on the memoryClass key in the simdevicetype’s capabilities.plist. 0 = <1GB, 1 = 1GB, 2 = 2GB, 3 = 4GB.

RAM is one of the internal features — also including memory and processor clock speed — that Apple almost never mentions itself, so it’s no surprise that the company didn’t make mention of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus’s additional RAM during its recent event. The bump up to 2GB of RAM is a big deal for the two phones, though, because it’ll allow them to keep more web pages and apps running in the background without closing them. And anyone considering the iPad Pro — which starts at $800 and goes up from there — will probably be happy to hear that Apple has given its high-end tablet a fitting amount of RAM.
