UPDATE: P3Droid, who has long been a source of Motorola info, says that the Moto X Pure Edition will begin shipping the week of September 13.
ORIGINAL: Remember last month when Motorola said that the Moto X Pure Edition would launch on September 3, but then deleted that announcement. Turns out that it wasn’t too far off.
Motorola just sent out a Tweet that says that the Moto X Pure Edition will be available for pre-order tomorrow, September 2. Motorola has previously said that the Moto X Pure Edition will start at $399, and you’ll be able to add premium backs and more storage though Moto Maker if you’d like. An exact launch date hasn’t yet been announced.
The Moto X Pure Edition will be sold unlocked, and Motorola says that you’ll be able to use it across all four major US carriers. The phone comes with a 5.7-inch 2560x1440 display, 21-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front camera (each with its own flash), Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of RAM, 16/32/64GB of storage, a 3000mAh battery, and a body that’s covered in water-repellent coating.
On paper, the Moto X Pure Edition looks like a solid addition to the Moto X family, so long as you’re ok with carrying a phone with a large display. The big question is whether or not the new Moto X’s camera will be able to perform better than the cameras of its predecessors, which have been lackluster.
