Google is improving app discovery in mobile searches with a new layout for consumers looking for a new app to download.
The new layout appears when you search for “____ apps” on your Android device. For example, I searched for “space apps” and was presented with a bunch of colorful blocks, each with an app icon, name, ratings, and price. Clicking on the expand button at the bottom of the section will make the grid full screen and present you with a larger list of apps. And if you see an app that looks interesting, you can click it and go to its Google Play page.
These new app search results on Android look pretty good, especially compared to the iOS version, and it’s also much easier to read. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that this new app grid is making its way to other platforms quite yet. I searched for “music apps” on an iPhone and got a more basic list, which you can see below.
