If it feels like the legal battle between Apple and Samsung has been going on for years, well, that’s because it has. And today it was revealed that Samsung will be pushing the war on a bit longer.
Samsung has filed court papers that show that it wants the US Supreme Court to hear its appeal of a 2012 verdict that found Samsung to have infringed upon several Apple patents. In its request, Samsung’s legal team says, "The questions present issues of enormous importance to patent litigation and the scope of innovation, especially in high-technology industries.”
Samsung says that it plans to formally make its request to the Supreme Court by November. The Supreme Court doesn’t have to agree to take the case, and it’s said that that decision could be made by June 2016.
There’s been a lot of back and forth in this legal battle between Apple and Samsung, and so far Samsung has been able to have the original $1 billion verdict for Apple reduced to around $548 million. That number could drop by another $400 million if the Supreme Court takes Samsung’s side, but right now that’s up in the air, even if Samsung does have the support of companies like Facebook and Google.
