We’ve been hearing about Microsoft’s flagship Talkman and Cityman Windows Phone devices for more than a year now, but it seems that we may soon finally see them made official.
According to The Verge, Microsoft is planning to hold an October event to show two new Lumia smartphones. Those are likely the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, which feature the codenames Talkman and Cityman.
Both phones are expected to be high-end Windows 10 Mobile devices that have 2560x1440 dispays, 20-megapixel rear cameras, 3GB of RAM, and microSD card slots. The two big differences between the phones are said to be screen size and processor, with the 950 having a 5.2-inch screen and a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 while the 950 XL will have a 5.7-inch display and an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor.
It’s been quite a long time since we’ve seen a new flagship Windows smartphone, so it’s exciting to hear that the Lumia 950 and 950 XL may finally be getting close. While it seems unlikely that these new Lumia phones will reverse Windows Phone’s fortunes and give it a huge boost in market share, they’re sure to please existing fans of the platform. And the combination of their high-end specs and Microsoft’s efforts to get Android and iOS apps onto the platform could get a few other folks to check ‘em out.
In addition to these new Lumia phones, Microsoft is reportedly prepping a new Surface Pro 4 tablet as well as a Band 2, which will be an updated version of its Band wearable. There may also be “one or two hardware surprises,” but it’s unclear what those might be.
