Silent Circle today revealed a new feature of its upcoming Blackphone 2, an Android device that it originally unveiled back in March.
The Blackphone 2 will support Android for Work, a feature that lets you use your own device for your work by separating your business apps from your personal apps. Android for Work also lets you have a dedicated work profile that keeps your business data totally separate for your personal data.
The addition of Android for Work on the Blackphone 2 means that the device will be better suited for the enterprise because IT managers will be able to load work apps and data onto any Blackphone 2 units that their employees have. Because the Blackphone 2 is all about security, it’s not terribly surprising to see it gain Android for Work support, but it’s a good addition nonetheless.
The Blackphone 2 will feature a 5.5-inch 1920x1080 display, Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a microSD slot, 13-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front cameras, and a 3060mAh battery. It’ll run Silent OS, a customized and security-focused version of Android. Silent Circle says that the Blackphone 2 is expected to arrive this September, and the company previously said that it would cost $629.
