If you’re a Pebble Time Steel backer, you’re probably getting antsy to get your shiny new smartwatch on your wrist. Fret not, though, because Pebble says that it won’t be long before Pebble Time Steel units begin hitting backers’ doorsteps.
Pebble said today that the first batches of Pebble Time Steel units left the factory on July 27 and that they’re currently headed to distribution centers in the US, Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, and Ireland. The backers that’ll be getting these watches should get their tracking numbers by the middle of next week.
Pebble also dropped some details on the status of the metal bands for the Pebble Time Steel. The company previously said that the metal bands would be shipped out separately from the Pebble Time Steel (which will come with a leather band as well) due to “supply issues.” That’s still the case, but Pebble says that it’s working to get Kickstarter backers their metal bands as soon as possible. Pebble can’t say for sure when the metal bands will begin shipping, but it does say they should be finished shipping by the end of September. Pebble will pay for the shipping costs related to this metal band delay.
It’s kind of a bummer that the Pebble Time Steel’s metal bands are shipping late since the whole appeal of the Pebble Time Steel is its metal construction. Of course, backers won’t be left totally band-less since they’re getting a leather band with their watch, and the good news is that at least Pebble is covering the shipping costs related to the metal band issues. Good on ya, Pebble.
Finally, Pebble notes that it recently began pushing out an update to the Pebble Time Steel that bumps the watch to version 3.2. The update includes new settings for backlight, font size, and vibration, improvements to notifications including a new Dismiss All action, bug fixes, and support for “most” music players on Android. So if you’ve got a Pebble Time and you haven’t yet updated, head into the Pebble app on your phone and go into Menu > Support > Update Your Pebble to update.
