Earlier this week, Motorola took the wraps off of three new Android phones: the Moto X Style / Pure Edition, Moto X Play, and Moto G (3rd Gen.). You’ll notice that there's no DROID in there. However, a new report claims that that’ll change later this year.
Evan Blass, also known as @evleaks, says that he’s heard of two new Motorola-made DROIDs coming to Verizon. The first is referred to as the “MAXX 2,” which would be a successor to the Motorola DROID MAXX, which is all about a huge battery. The second phone is called the “Turbo 2,” likely a follow-up to last year’s DROID Turbo.
So now I'm hearing that there are going to be both a MAXX 2 as well as a Turbo 2.

Neither Motorola nor Verizon have come out and said “Hey, there are new DROIDs coming this year,” but Motorola did tell Sascha Segan of PCMag that the company will “continue with the DROID franchise” and that the company will talk further “later this year.”
What’s interesting about this two DROIDs rumor is that there’s two DROIDs. Last year Motorola opted for a single DROID — the Turbo — after simultaneously releasing multiple models in past years. The DROID Turbo was a high-end phone with a beefy battery, the latter of which was typically the big draw for the MAXX phones, which kind of negated the need for a MAXX last year. Apparently Moto might be making both a MAXX and a Turbo this year, though. Does that mean that the new Turbo won’t have quite as large a battery as the original Turbo to make room for the MAXX? We’ll just have to wait and see.
