For some time now, the rumor mill has been claiming that Apple is working on a 12.9-inch “iPad Pro.” And while Apple hasn’t made any official announcements about such a device, some iOS 9 pieces seem to confirm that a bigger iPad is indeed coming.
Developer Steven Troughton-Smith has posted a couple of images from iOS 9 that show a landscape keyboard that scales to a screen size bigger than the standard iPad. As you can see in the images below, the keyboard includes a row of symbol keys above the letters that are also smaller than the rest of the keys. The iOS 9 keyboard on the regular iPad doesn’t have that extra row. There are also some extra buttons on the sides of the alphabet keys of the iPad Pro keyboard, including Tab and Caps Lock keys.
There’s nothing in iOS 9 that straight-up says “Hey, this larger keyboard is for a new iPad,” but it certainly looks like the bigger ‘board is indeed intended for an iPad bigger than the 9.7-inch Air 2. If Apple were to try and include this new keyboard with additional keys onto the existing iPad screen, it could be a bit cramped for some users. On a screen like the 12.9-incher that’s rumored to be included with the iPad Pro, though, it’d be a nice fit.
