Remember the Saygus V Squared? The device debuted at CES 2015 with a crazy spec list that included a 21-megapixel camera and two microSD slots, and shortly thereafter, Saygus began taking pre-orders for its new Android superphone. We haven’t heard much about the V Squared since then, though, and now we know why.
Saygus today launched an Indiegogo campaign for its V Squared smartphone and axed its previous pre-order plans. In explaining the change, Saygus founder Chad Sayers explained that his company had to switch manufacturers because the old one wasn’t meeting Saygus’s quality requirements. Now Saygus is on Indiegogo, which Sayers describes as “a great platform to assist us in bringing together a global community of technology enthusiasts who want to collaborate with Saygus to create the future of mobility.” Anyone that previously pre-ordered the V Squared will get their phone as soon as its ready to ship.
In the transition to a new manufacturer, Saygus also decided to make a couple of notable changes to its phone. The V Squared now includes two SIM card slots, and it’s also been upgraded from Android 4.4 to Android 5.1.
The Saygus V Squared is available at an early bird price of $600 or a regular price of $650, and buyers can select a black, white, or pink phone. Saygus says that the V Squared is currently in being certified by carriers and that in July the company will order parts for its phone. Assembly and quality assurance testing will take place in August and September, and Saygus aims to begin shipping V Squared phones in fall 2015.
The V Squared has some impressive specs, and while I’m sure that anyone that’s already pre-ordered a unit is disappointed that they’ll have to wait until the fall to get their phone, at least now it’ll have new features like dual SIM slots and Android 5.1. Here’s to hoping that Saygus doesn’t run into any other issues with their device and that they can get the V Squared out in the fall.
Are the V Squared’s dual SIM slots and Android 5.1 upgrade enough to get you to back the project on Indiegogo?
