Remember Cyanogen’s announcement last week that it would support all global OnePlus One models with over the air updates, including those in India? Well now the company has clarified that statement, and it turns out that things are quite as awesome as many had originally thought.
Cyanogen explains that Indian users that purchase a global version of the OnePlus One will indeed get CyanogenMod OS updates. However, anyone that buys a OnePlus One regional hardware sold directly inside of India are excluded from those updates, meaning that they’ll get OnePlus’s custom version of Android 5.0 Lollipop.
So there’s a bit of good news and a bit of bad news for consumers in India. While OnePlus One units sold inside of India won’t get CyanogenMod OS, any Indian consumers that do want CyanogenMod can order a global unit and get they CyanogenMod on. Sure, that might require a bit more work, but at least it’s an option.
