The Samsung Gear VR is now available for purchase in the U.S., just like Samsung said it would be.
The Gear VR is in stock on both Samsung and AT&T’s online stores, complete with a price tag of $199. It’s worth noting that AT&T says that the Gear VR is only available online, so you won’t be able to walk into your friendly neighborhood AT&T store to pick up a unit today.
Gear VR is Samsung’s new virtual reality headset that was built in conjunction with Oculus, a company with its own VR headset known as the Oculus Rift. Once you slot a Galaxy Note 4 into the device — and yes, you need a Note 4 to get the Gear VR to work — you can view “full 360 degree video” The Gear VR has a focal adjustment for nearsighted and farsighted users, a touchpad, back button and volume key for controlling your content and a bevy of sensors.
While the Gear VR looks like an interesting product, especially with its $199 price tag, the fact that it’s only compatible with the Galaxy Note 4 could limit its adoption. What do you think of the Gear VR? Would you buy one if you owned a Note 4?
