Google’s kept itself busy lately by updating its core Android apps with new Lollipop-style Material design looks, like it did with YouTube the other day. Strangely, Hangouts isn’t totally Materialized yet, despite it being an app that most Android users likely use everyday. A new leak has shown that Google is working on changing that, though.
Images shared by the folks at Android Police give us an early peek at the update that’ll bring Hangouts more into the Material age (current Hangouts is on left, updated app is on right). There’s an updated green hue that’s darker and a bit less vibrant, and that color extends up to the status bar. Also included is a refreshed app icon, an updated navigation drawer and a hamburger button that’s been pushed out from the edge of the screen.
This update doesn’t appear to be a huge facelift, but there are some small tweaks here and there that make it feel more like an Android 5.0 app. Of course, we could see Google continue to Materialize Hangouts in future updates. There’s no word yet on when this update will begin rolling out to us regular folk, but I’ll be sure to let you know when it does.
