When Apple first announced Apple Pay, it said that it’s mobile payment platform would be available in October. Unfortunately for those iOS users eager to leave their wallets in their pockets, Apple didn’t get any more specific than that. If a new leak is to be believed, though, iOS folk may only be a week away from tapping to pay for their goodies.
An internal Walgreens memo has been leaked by MacRumors that tells managers of the retail chain how to prepare for the launch of Apple Pay “on October 18.” The memo goes on to explain how Walgreens employees can prepare for the launch and customers “will immediately be able to use the service that is easy, secure and ensures their privacy.”
While Apple hasn’t said exactly when Apple Pay will go live, a launch on or around October 18 would make sense. Not only is the Cupertino firm holding an event two days earlier, but iOS 8.1 has also been in beta for a few weeks now with Apple Pay support in tow. And with Walgreens saying that supporting Apple Pay will “reinforce [its] position as a leader and innovator in the mobile world,” it would make sense that the retailer would want to be a part of the Apple Pay launch.
