Apple is widely expectedto unveil new iPad models and Retina iMac units atits event next week. Little is known about what features the new iPads might include, but a new leak has shown that, like the Retina iMacs, the new iPads could feature a super high-res screen upgrade too.
iOS developerHamza Soodwas recently digging around inside of Apple’s iOS 8.1 beta update and discovered that some parts of it include @3x iPad user interface elements. Apple is using @3x assets on the “Retina HD” screen of theiPhone 6 Plus, and so these 3X iPad elements suggest that Apple is at least considering a “Retina HD” display for a new iPad model as well.
It’s worth noting that the presence of @3x iPad UI elements inside of the iOS 8.1 beta doesn’t guarantee that we’ll see a super high-res iPad next week. It does show that Apple has at least played with the idea of such a device. And withthe 12.9-inch iPadrumored to be coming sometime in 2015, a super high-res 10-inch iPad Air could give Apple a worthwhile new tablet to offer this holiday season.
