Foursquare announced earlier this year that it’d be splitting its popular check-in service into two apps: Swarm for checking in and Foursquare for local search. Swarm launched shortly thereafter, and now the revamped Foursquare is finally ready to go live as well.
The new version of Foursquare focuses on learning your interests and suggesting places that you should visit. That includes places in your town that you may not know about or locales in a new city that only the locals are aware of. Foursquare explains that the app “frees you from having to read long, random reviews” by learning from you, the places you like and reviews from your friends and experts.
The new Foursquare app is rolling out today. With today’s revamp, it’s clear that Swarm is meant to help you find your friends while Foursquare aims to help you find new places to visit. It remains to be seen exactly how well the new Foursquare performs as a discovery service, but here’s to hoping that the company can make this Swarm/Foursquare app split worth it by making Foursquare a must-have service.
Do you use Swarm or Foursquare? Do you plan to check out this new Foursquare app?
UPDATE: The refreshed Foursquare app is now available for download from Google Play and the App Store. Be sure to share your first impressions with us after you install it!
