Get excited, Windows Phone fans, because Nokia has announced that it’s started to roll its Lumia Cyan update out to its Windows Phone devices!
Nokia says that starting today, July 15, it’ll begin pushing Lumia Cyan to Windows Phone 8 hardware. Lumia Cyan is a combination update that includes Windows Phone 8.1 and special Lumia features like updates to the Nokia Camera, Creative Studio and Storyteller apps.
Despite the fact that it’s just a 0.1 upgrade from Windows Phone 8, WP8.1 is actually a pretty big update for the platform. It includes Action Center, which is the Windows Phone version of a notification center and quick settings panel, as well as customizable Live Tiles and the Cortana virtual assistant. More details on WP8.1 can be found here.
Finally, Nokia says that Lumia Cyan contains a couple of extra special goodies for Lumia 1520 and Lumia Icon owners. These include improved audio capture quality thanks to Nokia Rich Recording and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 support as well as camera improvements like better low-light performance, continuous autofocus and improved RAW DNG image support.
Lumia Cyan will begin rolling out around the globe today. You can check the progress of your specific device’s update right here. In the U.S., most every Windows Phone 8 is listed as “Under testing.” The lone exception is T-Mobile’s Lumia 810, which won’t be getting the update.
